PDA Skin Family

Updated for IPB 2.2.x (Blue on Light Background)

Overview

This page describes the PDA Skin family of skins. The skins have been optimized for:

Display on small screens (although it works great on large screens too)
Minimal bandwidth usage
Retain core functionality

Bandwidth usage is slightly more than the Lo-Fi mode provided by IPB, but users can still post/reply, check PMs, search, mark all as read, etc...

These skins may be downloaded and used at no charge. You may not make any modifications to the skin except as outlined below (in the "Suggested Modification" and "Optional Modification" sections).

A copyright removal license may be purchased for $200 USD and is good for one IPB installation (one domain name). The copyright removal license allows you to remove the copyright and allows unrestricted modification to the skin for use on the installation for which the copyright removal license has been purchased. You may not redistribute any skin that is derived from the PDA Skin family of skins.

Shown below are samples of the board index, forum listing, and topic listing using the skin with blue coloring on a light background. Red bullets indicate new posts, red plus symbols indicated queued posts/topics, green bullets indicate that a user is online.

CSS files: light.css and lightBlue.css.

Installation

Suggested Modification

Important: Don't skip this

This is the first of two authorized modifications.
After installing one of the PDA Skins be sure to set the default skin ID in the global_board_footer template bit. This is accomplished with the following steps (refer to the images below the steps):

Precondition: assumes the PDA Skin has been uploaded and you are logged in to the admin panel

Select LOOK & FEEL tab
Select PDA Skin drop-down menu
Select Edit Template HTML from the drop-down menu
Select All Global HTML from the list of template sets
Select global_board_footer from the list of template bits
Make sure that the skinid is set to a valid skin for your board so that when a user selects the Full option in the board footer, she receives a valid skin change.
You can determine the skinid by selecting a skin change from the skin selector drop down
and then looking in the address bar to see what skinid value was used
Once the skinid has the appropriate value, select Save Template Bit and you are done

Failure to perform this step may result in an administrator to change a user's skin from the PDA Skin.

Optional Modification

Changing color schemes

This is the second of two authorized modifications.
After installing one of the PDA Skins you can switch to any of the other skins in this family by only changing two cascading style sheet (CSS) files. The colors for the skin are specified in two CSS files. The skin above uses the light.css file to specify the light background and the lightBlue.css to specify the blue color scheme. These two files are specified in the Board Header & Footer Wrapper. Changing to a different color scheme is accomplished by the following steps (refer to the images below the steps):

Precondition: assumes you have just completed the suggested modification above. If you have just logged into the admin panel. Follow step 1 from above instead of the step 1 below.

Select Skin Manager from the menu on the left
Select PDA Skin drop-down menu
Select Edit Board Header & Footer Wrapper from the drop-down menu
Modify the CSS filenames (circled in image below)
Select Save Wrapper and you are done

Be sure to retain the order of the CSS files with the dark/light file first and the specific color file second.
